When a Turkish citizen applies to the Marriage Officers of the Municipalities for official marriage procedures with a foreign national, the following documents are required for a foreign woman or man.

 

Apostilled birth certificate to be brought from their country,

Apostilled celibacy certificate to be brought from their country,

Notarized Turkish translation of the passport,

Medical certificate for marriage,

6 passport photos,

residence permit,

A sworn translator is also required for the spouse who does not speak Turkish.

 

Foreigners generally have problems in marriage procedures in Turkey under five main headings. In the examinations made when they apply to the marriage office with the apostilled birth and celibacy certificate they brought from their country, sometimes the information in the passport and the birth and celibacy certificate do not match.

These are usually typographical errors caused by translation. For example, in the translations of birth and celibacy certificates, the letters "I" instead of "I", "Ü" instead of "U", "K" instead of "X" are written. In this case, the marriage application will not be processed. Even if it is obtained, there are serious problems in family residence permit applications.

When foreigners, whose visa period has expired in Turkey, apply to the marriage office with apostilled birth, celibacy certificate and other documents they brought from their country, a residence permit is requested from the foreign national because the visa period has exceeded, and the application is not processed.

Foreign nationals who are banned from entering Turkey sometimes want to have an official marriage after entering Turkey illegally. When those who enter Turkey illegally apply to the marriage offices for official marriage, their applications are not processed.

Marriage applications of foreign nationals who do not have a valid passport, whose passport has expired or who have an old type passport are not processed.

Foreigners who do not have a Zagran passport cannot marry officially in Turkey. This problem is mostly experienced by the citizens of Turkmenistan.
